Worried about Vit C and blood thinner, kidney stones

Post by ofonorow » Wed Mar 22, 2017 5:52 am

Robert, my husband has just read that high doses of Vit C can effect his BLOOD THINNER ((Aggrenox) and causes kidney stones. He is taking approximately 10,000 grams per day. What a safe amount that will not interfere with any of His prescription drugs? What is considered a massive dose for a male (~235lbs)? Thank you.
Can post this question if you would like.

Johnwen is this "blood thinner" a vitamin-K antagonist? Would vitamin C have any negative effect?

This was my original response.

We are interested where this information was found, as both are inaccurate.

Vitamin C is not a blood thinner by any stretch of the imagination. Vitamin E may sometimes have "blood thinning" properties, but cannot affect the standard INR (clotting) tests either. This is misinformation, but apparently misinformation that every conventional doctor/surgeon has been given. (Rereading, I see you are asking whether vit C can "affect" the blood thinner.)

Kidney stones are a little more complicated. We believe that vitamin C protects against kidney stones, but in some people (with acidic urine) they may wish to take their vitamin C as the alkaline sodium-ascorbate. (Pauling told us that stones will not form in pH neutral urine.) Magnesium can dissolve stones, and vitamin B6 deficiency has been implicated (by Harvard Univ) in the formation of stones.

Dr. Suzane Humphries, MD is a renal/kidney specialist who now promotes high doses of vitamin C. This is a wonderful lecture by her

Linus Pauling took (and myself now takes) 18,000 mg of Vitamin C daily, or twice as much as your husband. I think 10,000 is a good amount for most heart patients.

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is
research!
