I am a retired Pan American Airways Capt. who has had open heart surgery to replace my mitral and atrial valves and a double by-pass (they thought I might need 3 by-passes but angeogensis had self-bypassed the third blockage. I have a syncronizer type pacemaker installed and am on 2 different blood pressure meds. as well as Warfarin, lasix/potassium and multi-vitamins. I am 74 years old and the original diagnosis was fibrulation. At present my ejective factor is 20-25% and I can't walk the length of the house without taking O2 supplmt. I intend to start Cardio-c at the rate of 4 doses/day (I have already had vit. C to bowel tolerance trying to stop ulcers a few years ago). I think I can tolerate 9000mg vit C if I approach it carefully. Later I want to go to 10-12,000mg/day. Gene

Unfortunately for both of you, your description sounds a lot like my brother. (he smoked all his life and has a super low vitamin C bowel tolerance.) I credit the Livonlabs.com Lypo-C product with extending his life, because (unlike you) he cannot tolerate more than a gram or two of ordinary vitamin C orally. You might consider adding 1 or 2 packets of Lypo-C daily. (That can add roughly the equivalent of another 10 g of vitamin C without much risk of diarrhea.)

Now you imply that you took C, but haven't lately. True? How much have you taken daily?

And you didn't say how long ago the surgery was, but if fairly recent, a more conservative product is Tower Laboratories CardioAde http://www.paulingtherapy.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=35 only vitamin C/lysine - no proline. See my book for the reason (caution) why high does proline might not be advisable for recent bypass. We don't know for sure, but Pauling himself only recommended vitamin C and lysine. (Pauling's associate Matthias Rath recommended proline, and for those without bypass surgery, proline can have a remarkable Lp(a) lowering effect. (You may need the Lp(a) to keep the veins in your bypass strong.)

Another thing my brother is trying (for the low ejection fraction) is stem cell therapy. He's had one treatment, he sounds great, and he is going for another soon. Send me email (or join our forum and send a private message) and I can provide details.

Lot more to say, but that is why I wrote the book,http://practicingmedicinewithoutalicense.com/

surgery to replace my mitral and atrial valves

The four valves of the heart are Right side: Pulmanary and Tricuspid Left side: Aortic and Mitral.
The mitral valve is sometimes called the atrial valve. Also usually Stenosis of the aortic valve usually takes out or damages the mitral valve. Does he mean aortic valve??
This usually causes the left ventricle to enlarge which is called LV Hyperthrophy the muscle has to work hard which like any other muscle will develop larger at some point since it's not getting proper nurishment it starts to break down. Add blocked blood flow and it starts falling apart. I'm going to attach a article on stem cell repair which has Drawing's of the damage this does. Magnesium is usually given to help counter this problem and works pretty well but takes time to help with the remodeling going on. Stem cell therapy shows lot of promise and has worked but of course there a battle of which type of cells to use.

2 different blood pressure meds. as well as Warfarin, lasix/potassium

If he had mechanical valves implanted he will be on Warfarin the rest of his days. These valves develop clots on their flaps and will get stuck open rendering them useless and the end of the line will fast approach. 2 different BP meds+Potassium. If one of those BP meds is an Ace inhibitor he needs to talk to his doc. Potassium blunts the effects of most ace inhibitors and is contraindicated.
We have discussed magnesium before and it seems he would benefit from it's use along with Owen's recommendations.

To whom it may concern: Valves replaced were Aortic and Mitral. Blood pressure medicine is: Coreg (3.125mg/twice per day) Lisinopryl: 5mg/one per day. I went to 2.5 (1/2 pill) 3 months ago and am about to stop taking it altogether. I get NO help from my cardio specialist because I take Nattokinease as part of my clot control and am slowly switching to fish oil and Vit. E @ 1200mg/day (both for cardio-C and blood thinning effect). I took Lipitor/zettea for 18 months after surgery and stopped. I have had 170-180 tot. cholestrol count my whole adult life. I'm sure anyone who is up-to-date on the latest knows that cholestrol forms (the large counts) after a heart attack occurrs and the longer the victum lives the higher the count. I am in contact with a cardio specialist on the west coast who has cured several pilots to the state they can once again hold a first class physical and operate as a Airline Transport Pilot and return to their airline job. He had me in good condition with a ejective factor of 45%to55% and for some reason it fell back to 20-25% over a period of 60 days. I am trying the Pauling therapy because I stumbled upon it and it is another try for recovery. I will continue to try to give all the info. anyone out there needs in an effort to recover! Further follow up on "Pauling therapy". I was taking 9k Vit"c" (chewable) and L-lysine @ 9k and 5k proline a day just prior to purchase of the Cardio-C. I had made slow progress prior to Cardio-C and that convinced me to try the original. After reading "Putting the "C" in Cure" on the orthomolecular.org site and checking another recommendation I have started to take Cardio-C at 1/2 dose every 2.5 Hours during time that I am awake and every 4 hrs. during the night (aprox.2 doses and sometimes 3 during the night.). I am in my 4th day of this and about to run out of Cardio-C but will call in another order of Cardio-Ade this time. The results I'm getting are quite supprising as well as gratifying! I am able to walk around the yard, my blood pressure is holding at 130/66 (81 beats/min.), and I generally have a good feeling and attitude. We may have found the "cure" for my problems. Having had my ejective up to 45-50% before I have a good "road map" of feelings and how much I can exercise without problems, that I can use to gage my progress. My next step will be to get completely off the blood pressure medicines. One is Alpha and Bata blocker and the other (lisinopryl) is an ACE inhibitor so both need to go as my condition improves. Also will be looking for new Cardio specialist. Gene
