from the email

I was told to take 15000 mgs of sodium ascorbate a day.
Is this the same stuff? [referring to Vitamin C Foundation Acorbic Acid Powder]

I would appreciate your response or phone call.

Who told you?

Generally, such a suggestion is good advice, however, the amount of vitamin C to consume varies per individual. See http://www.orthomed.com/titrate.htm or visit the Bowel Tolerance forum at http://vitamincfoundation.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=13

The fine powder that the Vitamin C Foundation sells (to help us fund our activities) is ascorbic acid (AA), not sodium ascorbate. The foundation believes that AA is the best form of vitamin C for oral consumption.

Unless there is a specific therapetuc reason why the vitamin C salt, sodium ascorbate, was recommended (e.g. for allergies?), Dr. Cathcart advises that the salt form of vitamin is generally about 1/2 as effective as ascorbic acid for most oral therapeutic uses. (Important Note: The sodium ascorbate is the only form suitable for intravenous administration.)

When you take high amounts of vitamin C as sodium ascorbate, your taking a lot of sodium. We need sodium, granted, but as an alternative to sodium ascorbate, we'd recommend adding some baking soda to help buffer the ascorbic acid when you take it.

I didn't know the sodium ascorbate form was better for allergies. If you have allergies, should you consider taking this form, along with ascorbic acid?
