Post Cannot take ordinary vitamin C due to Interstitial Cystitis
Quote:
Dear Owen

I'm very glad my husband loved the Cardio C, he is now off that sugary Gatorade because he says it tastes better! Thank heavens for Vit C foundation. Oh, and he always says he disliked stevia...ha ha.

I have interstitial cystitis.

I have a reaction to ascorbic acid sometimes, strongly. I don't have an extreme case by any means, thank god, I am not in constant pain like some people.

But, I will void 6 plus times in the night after having an irritating source of C, most recently, unfortunately, with the Cardio C, therefore, no sleep....and there goes my health. I just need to find a clean and effective, buffered source. This is even when I have the C in the morning only, or/and in the early afternoon, it seems that the bladder is irritated for a while before it calms down.

I am in the process of reading the Pauling book. I know he said that Vit. C is good for the bladder, but he doesn't mention interstitial cystitis. It's like having little sores or blisters in the bladder lining. I know that if I could just get a softened version of C regularly in the bladder, I could probably cure my condition.

Thank you for the time to write back. I've been going in circles with this issue for years, and its kept me from taking C.

Very glad to hear about your husband! Enjoyed that quote!

I will do a little research on Interstitial Cystitis. Pardon my memory, but have you tried Lypo-C??

Since the problem is vitamin C as ascorbic acid reaching the bladder, I would change to sodium ascorbate, and reduce the dosage (and possibly take more frequently).

At a low dosage you would minimize the amount of vitamin C that reaches the bladder (as the cells soak it up from the blood stream) and sodium ascorbate should cause less pain than the mild ascorbic acid. By low dosage, I am thinking 100 mg, starting at 2 or 3 times per day. Work up as the condition heals. Sodium ascorbate.
